The Best Private Equity Conferences for Operating Partners (2026 to 2027): Ranked by Who Is Actually in the Room

Every conference list is a calendar. This one tells you which rooms are full of operators, which are full of the people selling to them, and which three are worth the flight.

Best private equity conferences for operating partners

Private equity conferences for operating partners fall into three kinds: operator rooms, where most attendees run portfolio companies or portfolio operations; sponsor rooms, built for LPs and deal teams with an operations track bolted on; and vendor rooms, where the audience is the product. Pick by who is in the room, not by the agenda.

Every conference list we have read this year is a calendar. It tells you which events exist, where they are and what the organiser says about them, usually in the organiser's own words. None of them answers the question an operating partner actually has in September, which is whether the flight is worth it. This list ranks by that question. The dates and venues below were checked against each organiser's own page on 24 September 2026; where a 2027 date has not been published, we say so rather than guess.

How we ranked these: the room test

Before you book, ask what share of the badges belong to people who run portfolio companies or portfolio operations, what share belong to people selling to them, and whether a portfolio company chief executive would be invited as a participant or merely mentioned from the stage. The answers sort almost every event on this list, and they are usually available on the organiser's own site if you read past the headline.

The first criterion is attendee mix. Organisers publish audience descriptions, and we quote them rather than guess. PEI says its New York forum "brings together 500+ operating partners" and that 450+ attended in 2025. Informa describes its North American operating partners event as "150+ attendees. 70+ operating partners", which is an unusually honest ratio and tells you the other half of the room is there to meet the first half. Where an organiser gives no ratio at all, treat the silence as information.

The second criterion is whether portfolio company executives attend as participants. Most operating partner forums are fund-side rooms by design: the people in the seats work for sponsors, and the companies they are responsible for are discussed rather than present. That is fine for peer comparison and useless for the conversation most operators actually need, which is with the person who has to execute the plan.

The third criterion is session format. A closed-door, peer-led working group produces a different afternoon from a sponsored keynote, and the agenda tells you which one you are buying. Count the sessions with a sponsor's name attached against the ones without.

Two admissions. We have not audited a badge list; we are reading organisers' published claims and what operators tell us afterwards, so the ranking is a judgement rather than a measurement. And the list is US-heavy, because the operating partner role is, though the European rooms are on it.

Operator rooms: the ones worth the flight

1. PEI Operating Partners Forum New York, 19 to 21 October 2026

The Operating Partners Forum New York, run by PEI Group, is the largest dedicated operator room in the calendar. PEI claims 500+ operating partners across three days at Convene Brookfield Place, with tracks that cut across finance, technology, talent and go-to-market, and a "growth execution" strand that did not exist a few years ago. If you attend one event a year and you want to compare notes with people who hold the same job title at other firms, this is the one. The cost of the room is the room itself: it is heavily sponsored, the vendor density rises each year, and the working groups are where the value sits, not the main stage. Book early, read the agenda for the sessions without a sponsor logo, and plan your two days around those.

2. PEI Operating Partners Forum Napa, 22 to 24 June 2027

The Napa forum, also PEI, is the smaller sibling and, by most accounts we hear, the better conversation. PEI reports 200+ operating partners attended in 2025, a dedicated tech value-creation track, and "operating partner-only discussions" that the New York event is too large to hold. The trade-off is the calendar: a midyear resort in wine country is easy to justify to yourself and hard to justify to a board in the middle of a fund's busiest quarter. If your role is portfolio-wide rather than deal-specific, the peer-led format here will teach you more per hour than New York, and the 2027 dates are already published.

3. PEI Operating Partners Forum Europe, London, 2027 date to be announced

The European forum, PEI again, ran on 20 and 21 May 2026 at Convene 155 Bishopsgate, and the 2027 date had not been published when we checked. PEI describes participation as "carefully vetted and limited to full-time operating partners, senior portfolio operations leaders, and select value creation partners", which is the clearest description of its own audience any organiser on this list gives. The framing is execution-led rather than capital-led, and it is the right room if the portfolio is European or if your firm is building a portfolio operations function from a European base.

4. SuperReturn Operating Partners North America, 2 to 3 February 2027

Informa's operator event moves to the Signia by Hilton Diplomat in Florida for 2027, and Informa's own description is the most candid on this list: "150+ attendees. 70+ operating partners." Read that as a room that is roughly half operators and half people who want to meet them. The speaker roster leans towards fund-side operating partners at large firms, the format is more panel-driven than PEI's working groups, and Informa offers free passes to heads of value creation at GP firms, which tells you who pays for the room. Worth it if you want a compact, senior, well-organised two days; less so if you are looking for the peer-group intimacy of Napa.

5. IQPC Value Creation for Private Equity, London, 14 to 15 October 2026

IQPC's Value Creation for Private Equity is in its second edition, at the Marble Arch Hotel in London, and it earns a place here for one structural reason: it is built for "PE operating partners and portfolio executives to collaborate", with Chatham House rule discussions and an explicit invitation for funds to bring their portfolio leadership teams. That is the room most events do not build. The risk is youth. Two editions is not a track record, the audience mix is not yet published as a number, and second-year conferences are where organisers discover whether the concept survives contact with a sales team. If you are taking portfolio company executives with you, it is the only event on this list designed for that.

SuperReturn International, Berlin, 7 to 11 June 2027

SuperReturn International is the largest private capital event in the world by Informa's count, 7,000 attendees with 2,500 LPs and 3,000 GPs, and it is an LP and GP room first. There is an AI and technology value creation summit on the Monday, and the operations conversation happens in the corridors of the InterContinental rather than on the main stage. If your firm is raising, someone senior will be there anyway; go with them and use the summit day.

PEI's flagship events with value-creation tracks

PEI's broader calendar, from its regional PE forums to its investor-facing events, increasingly carries a value-creation track. These are sponsor rooms with an operations stream, and the stream is usually good, but you will be one of a few dozen operators in a room of several hundred. Attend for the deal team relationships, not for the craft.

ACG DealMAX, Las Vegas, 3 to 5 May 2027

The event ACG used to call InterGrowth is now DealMAX, at the ARIA in Las Vegas, and it is a dealmaker room without apology: ACG describes its members as the people who "invest, own and advise growing companies" and the event as one-on-one dealmaking at scale. Lower-middle-market operating partners go and come home with deal flow and intermediaries, not a better operating model. Its regional Capital Connection events follow the same shape. Admit that is why you are going and it is time well spent.

The macro rooms

The Milken and Bloomberg-type gatherings are a category rather than a list. They are excellent for understanding what the people who allocate capital are worried about this year, and they are not operating partner events in any sense the room test recognises.

Vendor rooms: know what you are buying

Software vendor user conferences, marketplace "summits" and the growing number of events run by firms whose business is selling to operating partners share one feature: the agenda is the sales funnel. That does not make them worthless. If you are choosing an ERP, a data platform or an outsourced function this quarter, a vendor room puts every option and a hundred reference customers in one building, and that is efficient. It is not where you learn the craft, and no event on this list is singled out for criticism on that basis. The tell is simple. If the organiser's business is selling to the audience, the room is a vendor room, however good the coffee.

What no conference gives you

The conversation most operating partners actually need in year two of a hold is not on any agenda, because it is about a specific company, a specific chief executive and a plan that has slipped. That conversation happens in a hallway, if it happens at all, and it is the reason the peer-led rooms outrank the panel-driven ones on this list. We have written about what the operating partner role actually is and why it is harder than the job description.

The second thing no conference gives you is the operators who are not there. The shortage of good operating partners means the best ones are usually the ones who could not get away, and the fund with a real portfolio operations group is often the one whose people are least visible on a stage.

The third is that most of the content is available for nothing. The newsletters and podcasts we rate cover the same ground the panels do, a week earlier and without the badge. What a conference sells is the room, which is why we rank by the room.

How to choose if you can attend one

A first-time operating partner should go to New York, because the peer group is largest and the job is lonelier than it looks. Someone running a portfolio-wide function, finance, technology or talent across a dozen companies, should choose Napa or London, where the format is built for comparing playbooks rather than listening to them. Anyone taking portfolio company chief executives along should take them to IQPC, because it is the only room on this list built to seat both sides. And anyone raising a fund or sourcing deals should go to a sponsor room, and admit that is why they are going. Book the room, not the agenda.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best private equity conferences for operating partners?

Private equity conferences for operating partners fall into three kinds: operator rooms, where most attendees run portfolio companies or portfolio operations; sponsor rooms, built for LPs and deal teams with an operations track bolted on; and vendor rooms, where the audience is the product. Pick by who is in the room, not by the agenda. The three operator rooms we rate are PEI's Operating Partners Forum New York, its Napa forum and its Europe forum in London.

When is the PEI Operating Partners Forum New York 2026?

The PEI Operating Partners Forum New York runs from 19 to 21 October 2026 at Convene Brookfield Place, 225 Liberty Street, New York. PEI describes it as bringing together 500+ operating partners, which makes it the largest dedicated operating-partner event in the calendar. Check the organiser's page before booking, since dates and venues change.

How do you tell whether a private equity conference is worth attending as an operator?

Run the room test. Ask what share of attendees run portfolio companies or portfolio operations, what share are selling to them, and whether portfolio company executives are there as participants. Then read the agenda and count the sessions with a sponsor's name attached against the peer-led or closed-door ones. An event that fails on all three is a vendor room, whatever it calls itself.

Do portfolio company CEOs attend private equity operating partner conferences?

Rarely, and by design. Most operating partner forums are fund-side rooms where the people in the seats work for sponsors and the companies are discussed rather than present. IQPC's Value Creation for Private Equity event is the exception, built to seat operating partners and portfolio executives together, and some sponsors bring portfolio company executives to other events as guests.

Are private equity conferences worth the cost for a lower-middle-market operating partner?

One operator room a year, yes; the peer comparison alone pays for the ticket if the role is new or the firm is building a portfolio operations function. The sponsor rooms are mostly not worth it unless you are fundraising or sourcing, in which case go and say so. The vendor rooms are worth a day only when there is a live tool decision to make.

What is the difference between SuperReturn and the PEI Operating Partners Forum?

SuperReturn International in Berlin is an LP and GP capital-raising room with an operations stream, 7,000 attendees by Informa's count. The PEI Operating Partners Forums in New York, Napa and London are built for operating partners only. Informa's own operator-only counterpart is SuperReturn Operating Partners North America, a smaller event that Informa describes as 150+ attendees including 70+ operating partners.
